sourcing food from producers and flash freezing to help extend the useful life & community’s enjoyment of healthful produce throughout the year.
The Frozen Produce Program involves freezing a portion of the produce grown and harvested at FAITH Farms, an urban farm in Gary, IN. A portion of the frozen produce will be given to the Northwest Indiana Food Bank for disbursement with the remaining sold to local restaurants, schools, and consumers. These consumers include selling to local hospital systems, casinos, colleges and universities and local school systems. This program also provides nutrition education about the benefits of frozen produce, tips for cooking with it, and numerous recipes.
This program operates in partnership and collaboration with Methodist Hospitals, Indiana University Northwest School of Business, Food Bank of NWI, Feeding America federally qualified health centers, local physician offices and local farms. This program is funded by a grant from Feeding America, the Food Bank of NWI, the Legacy Foundation and Progressive Community Church.
